Two Words
Anybody else getting fed up with all of this crap regarding the firing of 8 US Attorneys?
I’ve heard of number of different things, but I just can’t see the difference between the firing of these 8 and the firing of 93 US Attorneys by the Clinton Administration. Presidential appointees have always served only at the President’s discretion. If President Bush or the Justice Department felt that these 8 individuals were not meeting expectations, then they were entirely within their rights to get rid of them. This has ALWAYS been the case and it is no different anywhere else in society.
Some people are saying that it was wrong to fire these 8 for political reasons. And the firing of the 93 by Clinton wasn’t politically motivated? If you believe that, you’ve been watching too much media coverage or just plain naïve.
Besides spending our tax money for this political garbage, do you know what the real problem is?
I’ll tell you what the problem is…. we have too many career politicians in all levels of government. When this country was founded, the people that stepped forward to serve this country only did so to make a difference. Once they felt they had accomplished all they could, they returned to their respective homes and occupations.
We need to get back to the days of citizen-statesmen. Too many of today’s politicians run for office for purely selfish reasons, i.e., power, money, influence, ego. In my opinion, most are corrupt and violate their own personal beliefs to fit in with their respective political party.
Two words: Term Limits.
Many states, including my own, have term limits set for governor and the state legislature. With term limits, new faces are elected every few years. They serve their time and they are gone.
Even the President of the United States is term-limited to 2 terms. Yet, no such limitations apply to the members of Congress and this will never change. Why, you ask? Because it would take federal legislation to impose term limits, and they would never do that to themselves!
There is only one thing that would get their attention and consider passing such legislation... total and vocal outrage by the citizens of this country will force them to sit up and pay attention.
Otherwise…. I forget the movie, but I remember Sean Connery’s character saying something along the lines of “A little revolution every now and then is a good thing, don’t you think?”
